Impact of Teacher Strikes in Nepal on the Mental Health of School Students

Teacher strikes have become a recurring issue in Nepal, with widespread disruptions to the education system. These strikes, often driven by demands for better wages, working conditions, and policy changes, directly impact the students who depend on education for their future. The mental health of school students, particularly those from marginalized communities, is significantly affected by these strikes. When schools close, students lose critical learning time, face uncertainty, and often struggle with the psychological stress of an interrupted education. This disruption can lead to feelings of anxiety, frustration, and helplessness, especially for students already facing economic challenges.

The issue is urgent. Education is a fundamental right, and these strikes only exacerbate disparities in Nepal’s educational system. Students from rural and low-income backgrounds are particularly vulnerable, as they have fewer opportunities for academic support outside of the formal education system. Their mental health often deteriorates due to the lack of a structured routine, coupled with the stress of uncertain futures.

This pitch's target audience includes policymakers, government officials, and global audiences concerned with human rights, education, and mental health. Policymakers need to understand the urgent need to resolve teacher disputes through dialogue and fair solutions to minimize the negative impact on students' mental well-being.
